Tarik claims Premier interest

Porto midfielder Tarik Sektioui has claimed his progress is being followed by Premier League clubs. The Morocco international joined the Portuguese giants from AZ Alkmaar in 2006 and after a disappointing first season in which he was loaned out to RKC Waalwijk, Tarik became an integral piece of Porto's 2007/08 squad. This season, though, he has been restricted to a peripheral role at the Estadio do Dragao and will be allowed to leave on a free transfer in the summer. Tarik has been linked with Premier League duo Aston Villa and Tottenham and the player has claimed contact has been made by the duo. "There have been some talks but I have also been contacted by teams from the Persian Gulf," he told Mercato 365. "It could be an interesting challenge. Of course the financial aspect would have to be considered but those are leagues that have progressed a lot in the last years." Meanwhile, Tarik, who left Ligue 1 side Auxerre in 1999 to pursue his career in Holland, has refused to rule out a return to the top tier of French football. "There have been contacts with French teams and I do not close the door on that possibility," he noted. "I have always wanted to play at the highest level. It could be interesting for me to return to France, especially to a club that occupy the top of the table." Paris St Germain, Marseille and Monaco have all been credited with an interest in the 32-year-old midfielder.
