Szczesny: We're still the best
Wojciech Szczesny claims there has been no power shift in North London and still considers Arsenal to be a stronger side than Tottenham. With the Gunners having endured a troubled start to the 2011/12 campaign, which culminated in a 2-1 derby day defeat to Spurs on Sunday, it has been suggested that their powers are on the wane. Arsene Wenger has done his best to play down talk of a changing of the guard, with it his opinion that Arsenal will overcome an early-season wobble and reassert themselves among the Premier League elite. The club's supporters are finding it increasingly difficult to buy into that belief, though, with some beginning to question whether they have the right man at the helm. Szczesny is convinced that the Gunners will soon be back to their best, playing down crisis rumours, and believes it is far too early to suggest that their domination of North London football is over. "You cannot make such a statement after a couple of months after our poor start to the season or after just one game," said the Polish goalkeeper. "I think Spurs are a great club and they have shown today that they can play really good football, but are they better than Arsenal? I don't really think so." Wenger conceded after the weekend defeat at White Hart Lane, which left them 12 points adrift of the leaders, that Arsenal are probably out of the title race. Szczesny, though, feels that they could force their way back into contention if they can find some consistency. He added: "We have to improve our performances and then we just want to give ourselves the best chance of finishing high in the table, getting into the top four, and possibly winning the championship. "We have lost four games and Manchester United and Manchester City have lost none so we are behind at the moment but I believe every single team in the league will have a period somewhere where they play poorly. "We had a poor start but I think we can kick off the season after the international break. Hopefully we can catch up. I hope we can do it as soon as possible. The fans deserve better."
