Surgery to sideline Hutton

Tottenham Hotspur will be without Alan Hutton for a lengthy spell after Harry Redknapp confirmed the full-back requires surgery on a foot problem.

Hutton, 23, returned to the starting line-up earlier this month after missing the opening eight weeks of the season with the same injury.

But after missing Spurs' last two Premier League games, the Scotland international has been told he requires surgery.

"It's quite serious, it is certainly going to be a few months. It looks like it will be long term," confirmed Redknapp.

"It's the same injury that kept him out at the start of the year and they decided not to operate and it seems to have flared up again.

"There was so much to play for this year. It's a big blow for him."

The former Rangers defender has made just seven appearances for the north London club this season.
