Stronger Spurs please Harry

Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp is confident that he has built a much stronger squad at White Hart Lane during the recent transfer window.

Redknapp used his first summer window at the helm of the north London club to supplement the squad which finished last season in a positive manner.

Six new players - Kyle Naughton, Kyle Walker, Peter Crouch, Sebastien Bassong, Niko Kranjcar and Jimmy Walker - arrived while seven fringe members of the squad were shipped out.

"I never felt that we needed to make a lot of changes this summer because we already had a lot of quality within our squad," Redknapp told the club's official website.

"Sometimes I think that you can have too many players and it does nothing but give you problems. The squad is stronger. I think we've bought well and it's a well-balanced squad now in all parts of the field.

"We're looking to get some of our longer-term injured players back now like Michael Dawson, Gareth Bale, Jonathan Woodgate and Jermaine Jenas.

"They should all be coming back to fitness pretty soon and, when they do return, it will make the squad even stronger."

Meanwhile, ahead of Saturday's visit of champions Manchester United, Redknapp claims he didn't miss out on signing any of his serious targets before the window closed on September 1.

He added: "We did make enquiries about one or two players and there were one or two deals that were put to us.

"In terms of the players we were interested in bringing to the club, the ones that we followed up our interest in we ended up signing. We didn't miss out on anybody."
