Spurs target Corluka swoop

Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a surprise £7million move to sign Croatia defender Vedran Corluka from Manchester City.

The 22-year-old impressed in his first season in English football, before helping his country reach the quarter-finals of the European Championships in the summer.

However, the versatile Corluka, who can play at right-back or centre-half, is now rumoured to be attracting interest from Spurs.

Citizens boss Mark Hughes tried to downplay such talk, insisting that he knew little of any possible transfer.

He told the Manchester Evening News: "There will always be speculation about good players and Vedran is a very good player.

"He had an exceptional European Championships, but I can't elaborate any more because I don't know a great deal about it.

"The news surprised me this morning."
