Spurs sweat over Bale knock
13 Jul 2007 - 08:46:27
Tottenham face an anxious wait to discover the extent of an injury suffered by Gareth Bale after the £10million summer signing picked up a thigh problem on his debut.
The 17-year-old full-back limped out of Spurs' 1-0 friendly victory over St Patrick's Athletic in Dublin on Thursday evening with what appeared to be a muscular problem.
Robbie Keane scored the winner for Martin Jol's side in a match which also saw the debuts of fellow new signings Darren Bent and Younes Kaboul.
Afterwards, Keane was delighted with his goalscoring return to his home city.
"It was great to come back to Dublin and play a game," he told the club's official website.
"The last time I was here for a club match was a long time ago and this was a good test for the lads.
"It was only our second pre-season game and we've only been back in pre-season training for ten days, whereas St Pats are halfway through their season. That made for a real test for us and it was an enjoyable game.
"Of course, it's always nice to score but the most important thing is the fitness of the players. I played 90 minutes again after doing the same at Stevenage and with every game I feel better.
"It's gone well so far, I feel refreshed and I can't wait for the start of the season."
