    Spurs suffer Gardner woe

    13 Mar 2007 - 13:50:56

Tottenham Hotspur defender Anthony Gardner faces six weeks on the sidelines after picking up a knee injury in the FA Cup sixth round draw with Chelsea.

The 26-year-old has endured an injury-ravaged campaign and suffered his latest setback almost immediately after coming on as a substitute at Stamford Bridge.

"Anthony came on at Chelsea and after a couple of seconds took a knock to his knee," confirmed Spurs boss Martin Jol.

"We'll do a CT scan, but it looks like he'll be out for around six weeks.

"Fortunately, we have a squad of versatile players who can cover our defensive positions."

Meanwhile, in-form striker Dimitar Berbatov is happy to carry on playing as the club's fixtures continue to come thick and fast.

The Bulgaria international has scored five goals in his last six games as Spurs continue to battle on three fronts - the UEFA Cup, FA Cup and Premiership.

Jol's side have a UEFA Cup encounter with Braga and FA Cup replay with Chelsea to look forward to in the next week as well as a league game against Watford, and Berbatov hopes to play in all three games.

"If Martin Jol decides to play me against Braga, there's no problem. I'm ready to play every day if I have to despite the tiredness," he said.

"I am very happy to be here because there's a great collective in this club.

"Everyone in the club accepted me as one of them from my first day and this helped me a lot. My way to thank them is my goals and my way of play."
