Spurs suffer Bent knee blow
30 Apr 2009 - 15:14:40
Tottenham Hotspur striker Darren Bent is likely to miss the remainder of the season after suffering a knee ligament injury.
Bent, who is the club's runaway top scorer this season with 17 goals, picked up the problem during last weekend's 5-2 defeat at Manchester United.
The England striker had scored two goals in his last two games, but is now likely to miss the north London club's last five fixtures of the campaign as they look to secure a place in Europe for next season.
"Scans have revealed Darren Bent has suffered a medial ligament injury to his left knee," read a club statement.
"He picked up the injury in Saturday's match against Manchester United.
"The 25-year-old striker's knee will be in a brace for two weeks before being assessed again by specialists."
That immediately rules Bent out of the forthcoming games against West Brom, Watford and Everton, while he is unlikely to have fully recovered in time to take on Manchester City and Liverpool in the closing weeks of the campaign.
