Spurs rubbish King claim
04 Sep 2007 - 16:01:37
Tottenham Hotspur have rubbished media reports suggesting Ledley King has suffered a fresh setback in his bid to return from knee surgery.
Stories in Tuesday's newspapers claimed the Spurs skipper could be out of action until at least November following surgery during the close season.
However, Spurs insist the England international remains on target in his comeback trail following a ten-month battle with injury.
"Ledley has suffered no setback, he has no pain or swelling in his knee and is building up his fitness," head of medical services Wayne Diesel told the club's official website.
"I am satisfied that he is on course with his rehab and is making steady progress.
"We have always said that we would not look to rush him back as that would be counter-productive, so this will not be dictated by timeframes but by goal-specific stages in his rehab."
King missed the start of last season with knee trouble before sitting out three months at the turn of the year with a long-running foot problem.
However, he has also moved to deny the claims that his latest injury is proving more problematic.
He added: "Far from suffering any setback, I am in fact really pleased with the way things are going.
"No player enjoys watching from the sidelines and my sole focus is on getting fit and back in the squad."
