Spurs rubbish Bent rumour

Tottenham sporting director Damien Comolli has denied reports suggesting they are looking to offload Darren Bent in the January transfer window.

The England striker has started just seven Premier League games following his club record £16.5million arrival from Charlton Athletic in the summer.

Bent has scored just five goals and has been linked with a move to West Ham United, where he would be reunited with former Charlton boss Alan Curbishley.

However, Comolli is adamant the 23-year-old forward will not be sold when the transfer window reopens next month.

Both Bent and England colleague Jermain Defoe have often been left on the bench in favour of the preferred strike partnership of Dimitar Berbatov and Robbie Keane this season.

"Darren is not a six-month project. He is on a long-term contract," Comolli told the Mail on Sunday.

"As far as we're concerned, he'll be here for a long time."
