Tottenham Hotspur have called a halt to their bid to sign goalkeeper Stephen Bywater from Derby County.
The 27-year-old former England Under-21 international had undergone a medical with Spurs, but the White Hart Lane club are now reported to have switched their attentions to Real Zaragoza's Cesar Sanchez.
Rams boss, Paul Jewell, told the Derby Evening Telegraph: "I think Stephen is a bit disappointed but, from our point of view, he will certainly push Roy Carroll.
"Stephen has looked very sharp in pre-season and I am not disappointed, especially with Lewis Price being injured."
Jewell had said earlier, with Bywater set to head to Spurs: "Tottenham came in with a bid for Stephen and the player is very keen to go, which is fully understandable.
"I'd like to have kept him, but it's a move which appeals to him and we wish him well."
Spurs head coach Juande Ramos is on the lookout for a back-up to summer recruit Heurelho Gomes, having allowed both Paul Robinson and Radek Cerny to leave White Hart Lane this summer.
