Spurs positive on ill Lennon
06 Feb 2007 - 16:08:38
Tottenham manager Martin Jol expects to have Aaron Lennon available to face Sheffield United on Saturday despite the winger being sent from England duty due to a stomach bug.
Lennon, 26, will play no part of England's friendly meeting with Spain at Old Trafford on Wednesday after head coach Steve McClaren confirmed he had released the wideman due to illness.
But Jol believes the decision to send Lennon home will help in his bid to get the former Leeds United youngster fit for the weekend.
Lennon missed last week's Carling Cup semi-final defeat at Arsenal due to sickness but returned to play against Manchester United in Sunday's 4-0 rout at White Hart Lane.
"It's good for Aaron that England have sent him home, he can now recover and hopefully be fit for our game at Sheffield United on Saturday," Jol told the club's official website.
Lennon has made 26 appearances this season and scored two goals.
