Spurs launch Zokora appeal
19 Dec 2007 - 17:18:35
Tottenham have launched an appeal to have Didier Zokora's red card from Tuesday's Carling Cup win over Manchester City overturned.
The Ivory Coast international was sent off 20 minutes into Spurs' 2-0 victory at the City of Manchester Stadium.
Referee Steve Bennett deemed his challenge on City playmaker Elano to be a dangerous two-footed tackle and if found guilty Zokora will face a three-match suspension.
"Tottenham have submitted a claim for wrongful dismissal in relation to the sending-off of Didier Zokora for serious foul play against Manchester City," confirmed a FA statement.
"The claim will be heard by a regulatory commission tomorrow (Thursday)."
Speaking after the match, Spurs coach Juande Ramos claimed the incident was not worthy a straight red card.
He said: "It was absolutely undeserved, unjust and it wasn't a sending off, no way.
"We then had to pay the penalty of being a man down."
