Spurs flop Ramos lined up to take over from former Rangers boss Advocaat at Zenit

Awful at Tottenham, unwanted by Real Madrid, but Juande Ramos is being lined up to be the next manager of Zenit St Petersburg. Big-club experience: Juande Ramos spent most of the season in charge at Real Madrid The Russian club are looking for a replacement for 61-year-old Dick Advocaat, who is retiring from club management when his contract expires in November. And after being met by a lukewarm response from Jurgen Klinsmann and Marco van Basten, the club are said to be ready to turn to Spurs flop Ramos for one of the highest paid jobs in European football. Former Rangers manager Advocaat, who is on the verge of accepting anoffer to be Belgium's next boss, is paid more than £2million a year bythe Russians. Zenit are keen to make a move for a new boss whilecandidates are available rather than wait for the winter and there-start of European seasons. Florentino Perez, the man who is almost certain to be Real Madrid's president come elections next month, does not want Ramos as his Bernabeu boss, despite restoring pride and leading the side to second in the league. But Zenit see Ramos as having the perfect credentials, as well as a perceived knowledge of Russian football. At Sevilla he signed Aleksandr Kerzhakov from Zenit and at Spurs sanctioned the purchase of Roman Pavlyuchenko from Spartak Moscow. He twice won the UEFA Cup with Sevilla before struggling to translate his style to Tottenham. The Sovetski Sport newspaper reports Klinsmann and Van Basten would still be interested to hear what is on offer from Zenit, despite initially receiving proposals negatively.
