Spurs defender Jonathan Woodgate unlikely to play again this season
Published : 19 Feb 2010 12:28:17
Woodgate has started just three games this season and remains in America where specialists are trying to get to the root of his troublesome groin injury. The former England central defender had harboured hopes of making Fabio Capello's World Cup squad, but is struggling to regain his fitness. Alan Smith: Harry Redknapps Spurs side peppered with pace and goal threatRedknapp said: 'He's not back yet, he's still in America. He's been out there six weeks, seeing people about his groin. 'He is making slow process and he wants to be here, he's desperate to play football, but finding a cure is not easy. 'I would say it's doubtful he'll play again this season. Please God he does, but he's still trying to find a cure for it.' Redknapp also admitted that Aaron Lennon's return remains uncertain. The England winger has not played in 2010 and, at one stage, it was feared he may require surgery on his groin problem. 'Aaron is not fit yet, he's improving but it takes time,' added Redknapp. 'He's working every day with fitness coaches, he's not too far away, it could be any time. He's desperate to play and we're desperate for him.' Tottenham visit Wigan on Sunday hoping to replicate the remarkable 9-1 win over Roberto Martinez's side in November. 'Wigan will want to prove something. said Redknapp. 'It was a one off game, everything went right for us. But it is a tough game, they're a good side. It was one of those days, but it doesn't happen very often. They'll be out to get a result, for sure. The result is forgotten the moment it's over.'
