Preview: Tottenham v Man City

14 Dec 2009 - 11:07:30

An interesting looking clash between Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City takes place on Wednesday evening with the two sides continuing their top-four challenge.

The two teams are poised at the top end of the table although they both dropped vital points at the weekend.

Spurs disappointingly lost 1-0 at home to lowly Wolverhampton Wanderers and, despite a desperate attempt to get back into the game, their challenge fell flat.

Meanwhile, Manchester City drew 3-3 at Bolton Wanderers after being behind on three occasions.

Their effort wasn't helped when Craig Bellamy was harshly dismissed by referee Mark Clattenburg, but boss Mark Hughes will have been delighted to witness his team's battling capabilities and in particular the two-goal salvo by Argentina striker Carlos Tevez.

Since their 4-3 epic defeat to city rivals Manchester United, the Citizens remain unbeaten in their last 11 league fixtures and they sit in sixth place in the table with Spurs one place ahead in fifth.

Defender Wayne Bridge remains out after injuring a knee in the impressive 2-1 victory against Chelsea on December 5.

Spurs have endured a miserable run since their emphatic 9-1 triumph against Wigan Athletic in November.

They have picked just two points up from a possible nine and have also been dumped out of the Carling Cup.

Centre-half pairing Jonathan Woodgate and Ledley King remain out of the reckoning with groin and knee injuries respectively.

Wilson Palacios (rib) could struggle to make a return while stricken goalkeeper Carlo Cudicini is likely to be out for the rest of the season after suffering serious injuries in a motorcycle accident.

Tottenham grabbed a 2-1 victory against City at the end of last season thanks to goals by Jermain Defoe and Robbie Keane.
