Spurs close on Pompey duo

Tottenham Hotspur boss Harry Redknapp is reported to be interested in bringing Portsmouth pair Niko Kranjcar and David James to White Hart Lane.

Redknapp, who signed both players for Pompey during his spells as manager, is hoping to complete a double swoop before the transfer deadline closes at 5pm on Tuesday.

Goalkeeper James has long been linked with a move to the north London club.

Brazilian Heurelho Gomes is yet to fully convince Redknapp that he deserves to be the club's number one and is also currently sidelined with a thigh muscle injury.

However, Spurs are believed to be reluctant to meet Portsmouth's £5million valuation of their 39-year-old England international.

Meanwhile, Kranjcar is wanted following the injury to Spurs playmaker Luka Modric.

Modric is facing up to three months on the sidelines with a broken leg and Redknapp is keen to sign a fellow Croatian to fill the wide midfield void.
