Tottenham are reported to be close to finalising a deal to bring Auxerre defender Younes Kaboul to White Hart Lane.
The French club's vice-president Gerard Bourgoin has admitted that talks about the central defender's transfer to the north London side are ongoing and have now reached an advanced stage.
"There are very serious discussions with Tottenham but they are not finalised yet," Bourgoin told AFP.
"However, one can be optimistic about the way the negotiations are going."
The 21-year-old made his debut for Auxerre three years ago and has already made 55 first-team appearances for the club.
He was linked with a move to Rangers last year and was also reported to be interesting Portsmouth, Internazionale and AS Roma.
