Ruud Gullit claims Louis Van Gaal will replace Tim Sherwood at Tottenham

Ruud Gullit has claimed current Netherlands manager Louis Van Gaal will replace Tim Sherwood at Tottenham regardless of whether the London club are able to secure Champions League football.

Van Gaal, who has formerly managed Ajax, Barcelona, AZ and Bayern Munich, announced his intention to quit as Holland boss after this summer's World Cup, prompting the Dutch FA to officially announce the appointment of Guus Hiddink as the 62 year-old's replacement.

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is said to have been in close contact with the Dutchman, even reportedly watching the Spurs-Southampton on TV together and Levy paying a visit to Van Gaal's residence, according to Dutch legend Ruud Gullit.

As Sherwood, his future in the dark following recent disappointments and unwelcome speculation, prepares to face Liverpool this Sunday, the Reds equipped with Luis Suarez - a phenomenon Sherwood spurned the opportunity to acquire after a scouting trip to Holland.

‘They came to watch him,’ Gullit said.

‘I met Sherwood together with Les Ferdinand, they were Harry Redknapp’s assistants at the time and were also his scouts.

‘They asked me all kinds of questions about Suarez, so I just point blank said: “You have to snap him up, without any hesitation, in a heartbeat.”

‘“Well, we’re not sure,” they said whilst they actually watched him play. That’s a huge mistake, if you ask me. Afterwards they said to me: “Well, we might have got it wrong.”’
