Rocha agrees Spurs switch

Tottenham Hotspur have completed the signing of Portugal international defender Ricardo Rocha from Benfica.

Rocha, 28, has put pen to paper on a three-and-a-half year deal and will fill the void left by the departure of Calum Davenport to West Ham.

In the short term, the Portugal international will provide cover for Ledley King as the Spurs skipper continues to be troubled by a foot injury.

Rocha was an integral part of the Benfica side that reached the last eight of the Champions League last season.

The versatile defender - who can play anywhere across the backline - has also made five Champions League appearances during the current campaign.

"Ricardo is an accomplished defender who gives us further options in defence as he can play both in the centre and on the right," Spurs sporting director Damien Comolli told the club's official website.

"He brings considerable experience to Tottenham having played at the highest level in European competition and is also a current Portugal international.

"Ricardo has shown a great desire to come to White Hart Lane and will no doubt prove to be a valuable addition to the squad at this important time."
