Robinson buoyed by form
02 Jan 2008 - 16:10:37
Tottenham and England goalkeeper Paul Robinson believes he is finally beginning to recapture his best form after a disappointing period in his career.
The 28-year-old lost his England starting place to Scott Carson for the ill-fated Euro 2008 qualifying defeat to Croatia at Wembley in November.
Robinson had suffered a dip in form for both club and country in the preceding months and was even replaced at half-time in an England friendly in August following a mistake which gifted Germany their first goal in a 2-1 success.
But following a string of impressive performances for a rejuvenated Tottenham side in recent weeks, the former Leeds United keeper believes he is finally getting back to his best.
"When you get criticised it is not nice and you have a dip in confidence, but I feel in the last few weeks that I've been getting back to my best," he said.
"I'm feeling confident now going into games and hopefully my form is showing that.
"Of course it hurt at the time when I was left out by England, but sometimes you look at the game and become a better player by not playing.
"Now there is a new England manager and everyone starts with a clean slate.
"There are only a couple of England games during the rest of this season and I'm really looking forward to building on my confidence and maintaining my form for Tottenham."
