Returns provide timely boost for Tottenham

Jan Vertonghen, Younes Kaboul and Paulinho have all been included in Spurs’ squad for the trip to Hull.

Vertonghen and Kaboul will give the North London club a massive boost defensively, who will be looking to recover from the 5-1 drubbing at the hands of Manchester City on Wednesday. Kaboul has been out since the 6-0 defeat to City at the Etihad back in November, whilst Vertonghen hasn’t played since the win over Fulham back in December, where he picked up an injury on his right ankle.

The return of Paulinho also provides a generous dilemma for manager Tim Sherwood, who has shipped out Lewis Holtby to Fulham on loan to help ease his choices. With Moussa Dembele impressing, Nabil Bentaleb’s emergence and Etienne Capoue scoring in midweek, Sherwood is not spoilt for choices.

It’s not yet clear whether Sherwood will stick to his 4-2-3-1 formation against Hull which has been employed recently against the likes of Swansea and Manchester City, with varying degrees of success, or whether he’ll revert back to the 4-4-2.There would be significant implications on which way he decides to play, with Roberto Soldado ready to come in if they opt for another striker alongside Emmanuel Adebayor. This would mean that Gylfi Siggurdson would most likely drop to the bench, having not made an impact during the midweek fixture, with Christian Eriksen moving across to the left.

The news of Danny Rose’s red card being rescinded will also help Spurs no end, and after his unfair dismissal in midweek, he will be raring to go and put things right, as the Spurs team will surely know that this is a must win game should they really hold aspirations for a coveted top four spot.
