    Relieved Jol hails Spurs

    19 Aug 2007 - 10:52:44

Head coach Martin Jol admitted it was a huge relief to put some points on the board, after Tottenham Hotspur earned their first Premier League victory of the new season against Derby County.

The Spurs boss had come under pressure after spending £40million during the summer before seeing his new-look side slip to defeats in their opening two matches.

But the north London club finally found their feet in Saturday's home clash with the Rams despite missing a host of key players through injury, as a brace from Steed Malbranque and further strikes from Jermaine Jenas and Darren Bent sealed a 4-0 rout.

"It's a relief for everybody," said the Dutch coach. "It is horrendous when you play two games in this sort of industry and you can't get a result. It's the pressure you put on yourself.

"They (the players) showed me they wanted to do well for the supporters, that is the main thing, and the fans showed that they are right behind us.

"There was more rhythm than against Everton. It's not about players being fit or injured, we are judged on results so you need results no matter what. Next week it will be someone else, and that is a good thought."

Meanwhile, Jol believes Spurs will go from strength-to-strength when the likes of Ledley King, Michael Dawson, Dimitar Berbatov, Gareth Bale and Aaron Lennon return from injury.

"We will get better and better. I said to the youngsters there is pressure to get a result but after that I can bring you on. That's what I did," he continued.

"People saw that if we are fine as a club we can be a force again, but it takes more than four days."
