Redknapp rues Spurs defeat
22 Dec 2008 - 08:38:31
Tottenham Hotspur boss Harry Redknapp was left disappointed after his side's 2-1 defeat at Newcastle United.
Spurs conceded a last-gasp clincher at St James' Park, having looked set for a crucial victory as they held the upper hand after drawing level through Luka Modric's neat finish.
Redknapp said: "The game was there for us to win at half-time and I certainly wouldn't have taken a point.
"To get beaten like we did in injury time was a big blow. We had the chances and kept the ball well, but we were hit by a sucker punch.
"In our position you have to pick up points. We were the better team in the first half and had we taken the game by the scruff of the neck, we could have killed them off.
"I couldn't see Newcastle causing us many problems and I thought it was just a case of scoring the goal to take the three points.
"We got into some good positions without finishing it off."
