Redknapp calm after setback

04 Apr 2010 - 11:27:36

Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp admitted that his side could have no complaints following their 3-1 Premier League defeat at Sunderland.

The Londoners crashed in the north east as old boy Darren Bent came back to haunt them as he grabbed a first-half double, one coming from the spot, to put the Black Cats in control.

Bent had two further opportunities from 12 yards to extend his side's lead, but goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes made two telling penalty saves, thwarting the hitman.

Substitutes Peter Crouch and Jermain Defoe were brought on and it yielded an instant response.

Crouch halved the deficit with a header but, with time running out, Boudewijn Zenden's rasper settled matters leaving Redknapp to be magnanimous in defeat.

"It was an exciting game," Redknapp told Sky Sports.

"Both teams slugged it out, they had a real go. Three penalties they got in one game - I've never seen that before.

"I haven't seen the replays of them, but it'll be interesting to watch and there were chances galore at both ends.

"At 2-1 we were back in the game but then they had an amazing finish from Zenden - one of the all-time great volleys.

"We've got to pick ourselves up and get going again next week."
