Reasons why Christian Benteke should be Tottenham's top priority

After another season of disappointment for Spurs fans (no silverware & failing to qualify for the Champions League), there may be light at the end of the tunnel. AVB has stamped his authority on the squad and seems to be bringing out the best in his players. The squad looks fresh, youthful and packed with quality.

Things seem to be good apart from up top, it’s the one department Spurs seem to be lacking that cutting edge.

With Paulinho's signing (announced by the player himself), it seems like the midfield area is covered and will surely bring smiles to all the fans.

So this brings me back to the title of the article, Reasons why Christian Benteke should be Tottenham's top priority.

The Belgium in many ways is the complete forward that would add the finishing touches to an already well rounded squad.

What they need is a centre-forward who can take command of the ball with his back to goal allowing players like Bale and Lennon to run beyond him.

Emmanuel Adebayor has taken up this role, and while the Togo international has had a patchy all-round game, shining in certain games and coming off as below par in others, his teammates have excelled around him because he gives them an outlet on the break.

If Spurs had Benteke in their forward line he would be the perfect man in terms of his all-round centre-forward qualities, he is a massive upgrade on any player Tottenham currently have on their books in that department.

In the seven months or so he has been in the EPL his physical approach to the game has enabled him to adapt perfectly and impressively to the rigorous nature of English football.

When you consider Christian Benteke is only 22 years old, he ticks all the boxes for Andre Villas-Boas and the type of team he's building at Tottenham.

Young, hungry and has immense potential and having only cost Aston Villa £7 million last summer, you can be sure that Spurs would need to at least double that amount if they are going to seriously test Villa’s resolve for their star striker.
