Ramos relief at Spurs victory
19 Sep 2008 - 07:52:54
Juande Ramos admitted he was relieved after Tottenham Hotspur earned their first win of the season with a UEFA Cup first round first leg 2-1 success over Wisla Krakow.
The north London club are currently bottom of the Premier League table following a miserable start to the new season, but started their European campaign on the front foot following goals from David Bentley and Darren Bent.
Tomas Jirsak's second-half strike has provided the Polish side with a vital away goal, but Ramos was pleased to see his players get a first win under their belts.
"Obviously I'm relieved," said the Spanish coach. "We were in a bit of a bad run of results and we needed a win in order to give confidence and calmness to the team.
"Let's just hope that this will start a positive run leading to better results.
"I wanted obviously to get more than a one-goal advantage but it wasn't to be.
"The tie is very evenly balanced. The goal gives us a little bit of an advantage which will be important, but it will be a difficult game in Poland."
