Ramos plans Berbatov stay
02 Jan 2008 - 07:49:54
Tottenham Hotspur head coach Juande Ramos has once again spoken of his determination to keep star striker Dimitar Berbatov at the club beyond the January transfer window.
The 26-year-old Bulgaria ace is a rumoured target for both Chelsea and Manchester United, but Ramos is in no mood to part with such a key player.
He said after the 2-1 defeat at Aston Villa: "Obviously Berbatov's agent is looking to do his business and has made his comments.
"But we are happy because we have the player on a contract and we plan to keep him."
Berbatov's agent, Emil Dantchev, had earlier stated: "Dimitar wants to fulfil his potential and win trophies now.
"Dimitar is 27 next month and time is running out for him to play for a club that can match his ambition. I would like to stress this is not about money, this is about sporting ambition."
Meanwhile, Ramos' number two, Gus Poyet, has warned that major changes could be made at White Hart Lane after another dismal defensive show at Villa Park.
He fumed: "We had a chance to win the game, we changed the system in the second half and we were controlling the whole game.
"But we conceded two goals from set-pieces again. It's not about individuals, week-in week-out it's different players, it's a team problem.
"We are going to have to change, maybe we are going to have to make big changes."
