    Ramos hopes tide is turning

    10 Dec 2007 - 07:51:33

Tottenham coach Juande Ramos believes Sunday's 2-1 victory over Manchester City could be a turning point in their disappointing season.

Jermain Defoe stepped off the bench to fire home an 83rd minute winner as Spurs secured only their third Premier League victory of the campaign.

But after conceding a number of late goals in recent weeks, Ramos believes the tide could now be turning in Tottenham's favour.

"We've lost some very important points in last minutes of games, or in injury-time," said the Spaniard.

"We hope this is a turning point which gives us an impetus to go further up the table."

Meanwhile, Ramos refused to reveal whether Defoe's late strike would earn him a promotion from the substitute's bench.

The England striker has often been fourth choice behind Dimitar Berbatov, Robbie Keane and Darren Bent this season.

However, even with Keane currently suspended, Defoe failed to earn a place in the starting line-up.

"It's true that Defoe definitely helps the team when he comes on," added Ramos.

"But I have four centre forwards I have to choose between. He's one of them.

"Obviously we now only have three forwards to choose from so the minutes will get shared around - mathematically he has more chance of playing.

"There's no one, two, three or four in order. We simply have four centre-forwards to play in two positions, so two can play each game and two have to sit it out."
