Ramos hails important win
10 Mar 2008 - 08:34:34
Spurs head coach Juande Ramos claimed Sunday's 4-0 thrashing of West Ham was the perfect response to their UEFA Cup defeat to PSV Eindhoven.
Dimitar Berbatov found the net twice at White Hart Lane and further strikes from Gilberto and Darren Bent secured the points for the north London club to end a two-game losing streak.
Spurs had produced a below-par display when going down 1-0 at home to PSV in the first leg of a UEFA Cup last 16 tie on Thursday, while they followed up their Carling Cup triumph with a 4-1 defeat at Birmingham City last weekend.
"It was important to have a victory in order to recover some confidence," said Ramos
"We had a difficult match against PSV and it was important to get a good result after two defeats.
"I saw the team was much calmer and reassured and we were in control for large parts of the match. To score two goals at the end made it even better."
Meanwhile, Ramos has set his sights on toppling West Ham from tenth place in the table and claiming a top half finish.
"We have a game in hand, although it's against Chelsea, so that's a tough one and we have work to do yet," added the Spaniard.
"Five points to make up is quite difficult but we have to work and try to get as many points as we can."
