Ramos hails 'best' display
19 Dec 2007 - 07:51:54
Tottenham coach Juande Ramos claimed Tuesday's 2-0 Carling Cup win over Manchester City was the "best performance" during his time at the club.
Spurs went 1-0 up at the City of Manchester Stadium in their quarter-final clash before being reduced to ten men with the controversial 20th minute dismissal of Didier Zokora.
However, Ramos' side battled hard with a man down and eventually sealed their place in the last four with Steed Malbranque's decisive second-half strike.
"It is a positive result and sets us up for the rest of the season," said the Spaniard.
"To come away with a 2-0 victory will stand us in good stead and help the mind-set of the players.
"Given the circumstances, it has to be the best performance since I took charge.
"We were away from home against a team like Manchester City, who are high in the league and on a good run of form at home.
"Not only that, we were a man down from the 20th minute yet still managed to get through. We got our just rewards."
Meanwhile, Ramos has denied further rumours of a rift with Jermain Defoe, who appeared to be unhappy after being substituted in the 20th minute following Zokora's red card.
"Defoe understands the change was tactical. He knows we had to bring on an extra defender," added Ramos.
