Ramos: Defoe will remain

Tottenham boss Juande Ramos believes Jermain Defoe will resolve his differences with the club and sign a new contract.

The England striker has yet to commit himself to a new long-term contract at White Hart Lane despite warning from several members of the club's hierarchy that any further delay could lead to him being sold.

Defoe has less than 18 months remaining on his existing deal but Ramos expects him to put pen to paper in the not too distant future.

He also insists the 25-year-old remains part of his first-team plans despite the contract stand-off.

He said: "He has expressed that he likes the club and wants to stay here.

"There are some difficulties with the contract. But it is nothing major and they should agree.

"If he is in form and playing well he will continue playing. Sport and contracts are two different matters."

Defoe will miss Thursday's UEFA Cup clash with Aalborg as he is suffering with a cold.
