Poyet explains strike choice
05 Nov 2007 - 07:56:45
Tottenham Hotspur's assistant manager Gus Poyet has played down the importance of the decision to leave both Robbie Keane and Dimitar Berbatov on the bench for the 1-1 draw at Middlesbrough.
The duo were left out by new head coach Juande Ramos, with Darren Bent and Jermain Defoe handed starts at the Riverside.
Poyet said afterwards: "It was Juande's decision to play with two different strikers. We thought they were the best pair to start.
"They are different in terms of speed, the way they play up front, how they go in behind. They are quality individuals and have an understanding as a pair.
"It's not about one player or two, it's about the team. When the team get the right shape and the right players and start winning, after that it's easier to know the best eleven.
"But at the moment we don't have that so everyone is given a chance.
"We need to win every single game, we came here to win the game. One point was not enough for us.
"At the end of the game, after their unbelievable goal, you have to take the point but if you ask me if I'm happy, then no, I'm not."
