Pirates win pleases Jol
25 Jul 2007 - 10:29:43
Tottenham Hotspur manager Martin Jol was pleased with his much-changed side's display in the 2-1 pre-season friendly win against Orlando Pirates in Cape Town.
Only three players that had starred in the game against Kaizer Chiefs featured in the victory that came courtesy of goals by Darren Bent and Wayne Routledge.
"We played nearly a totally different team from the last game," Jol told the club's official website.
"Pirates were a lively team who played with a good rhythm and we gave away three chances when we shouldn't have done. We have to forgive the players though because it was a first game for a few of them.
"Darren Bent took his goal really well from a very good pass from Tom Huddlestone. He attacked the space to score and that's what we expect from him.
"They put us under pressure a bit later on and, after we scored our second, the penalties made it pretty exciting. I thought it was a good work-out.
"I thought Jermaine Jenas was terrific in midfield, but I had to substitute him after playing in both matches so he's okay for the final.
"We had good performances out there against a strong team who proved to be good opponents."
