Pavlyuchenko happy to adapt
06 Dec 2008 - 11:25:19
Tottenham Hotspur striker Roman Pavlyuchenko is delighted with the way he has settled into English football since his arrival from Spartak Moscow in the summer.
The 26-year-old Russia international scored just once in his first six outings for Spurs, but has since netted a further six times in eight more appearances for the north London club.
Pavlyuchenko admitted: "It was the first practice session that I realised I would have to totally restructure my game and play a different game.
"English football, it's all about speed, it's a lot faster and more mobile in terms of how you think and it's a lot more physically demanding, so I definitely needed to make a change to my game.
"But at least it didn't take me a year or half a year to get adjusted.
"Some foreign players, when they come to play in Russia, it takes them that long to become accustomed to the playing style."
Pavlyuchenko also revealed that Spurs were the only club who showed an interest in him, despite his impressive displays at last summer's European Championships.
He added: "No other European clubs were interested in me.
"There were rumours about me joining lots of different clubs, but real discussions were only held with Tottenham."
