Pavlyuchenko earns his Spurs
22 Feb 2010 - 08:15:14
Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp believes he is finally beginning to see the best of Roman Pavlyuchenko after he bagged two goals during Sunday's 3-0 win over Wigan Athletic.
Two late goals from the much maligned Russia international - his first Premier League goals of the season - helped Spurs move up from seventh to fourth place in the table and into the final Champions League qualifying spot.
Jermain Defoe had opened the scoring but afterwards a delighted Redknapp was keen to focus on the performance of substitute Pavlyuchenko.
"He trained well this week and, for me, he was the best player in training on Thursday and Friday," enthused Redknapp.
"He worked hard, showed a great attitude and it was great to see him come off the bench and score twice.
"Technically, he's a top-class player with great quality and he will always score goals.
"I said to him 'go out there and show us what you've been doing in training' and he did that. He was excellent."
Meanwhile, Redknapp also revealed that captain Ledley King is likely to be sidelined for a significant period after tearing a thigh muscle during the second half of a match which was played on a quagmire of a pitch at the DW Stadium.
