Tottenham Hotspur finally completed the signing of right-back Pascal Chimbonda from Wigan Athletic minutes before the transfer window closed.
The 27-year-old has had his heart set on a move to Spurs since handing in a transfer request on the final day of last season, but the Latics knocked back a series of bids from the Londoners.
However, a substantially improved offer, reported to be worth £6million, persuaded Wigan to sell on deadline day and Chimbonda agreed personal terms and passed a medical on Thursday evening.
The France international told his new club's official website: "I always wanted to be here. For me it is a footballing decision. Tottenham is a great club where I hope I can play my best football."
Chimbonda joined Wigan from Bastia in a £500,000 deal 12 months ago and was one of the surprise stars of the last Premiership season, with his performances earning him places in the PFA team of the year and France's World Cup squad.
