Palacios considered his future

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Wilson Palacios has admitted he thought about retiring from football following the death of his brother.

The 25-year-old Honduras international's brother, Edwin, was kidnapped in 2007 and was found dead in May.

Palacios paid a £125,000 ransom but his 16-year-old sibling's body was found following a confession from two jailed gang members.

"I was really thinking of giving up football altogether," he told the News of the World.

"My brother's always in my thoughts; when I go out on the pitch, in training, when I do anything.

"He is an inspiration for me to carry on, he drives me forward.

"Edwin was a footballer, too. He would have wanted me to keep on playing, as did my family. They helped me make the decision."

Palacios joined Spurs from Wigan Athletic in January in a £12million transfer.
