No Zenit loan for Pavlyuchenko
19 Jan 2010 - 09:10:08
Tottenham have rejected a loan approach from Zenit St Petersburg for out-of-favour striker Roman Pavlyuchenko.
The Russia international has not started a Premier League game for the north London club this season and has been strongly linked with a move away from White Hart Lane this month.
However, Zenit claim a six-month loan request with a view to a permanent end-of-season transfer has been turned down.
"The management were considering the loan of Roman Pavlyuchenko for six months to the summer in order to decide whether to buy him," claimed president Alexander Dyukov.
"Unfortunately, this proposal did not suit Tottenham. We would not like to acquire the player now."
Pavlyuchenko joined Spurs in a £13million deal from Spartak Moscow in September 2008 but has found first-team opportunities hard to come by following Harry Redknapp's arrival as manager three months later.
The 28-year-old is behind Robbie Keane, Peter Crouch and Jermain Defoe in the pecking order.
