No rapid return for Woodgate
22 Sep 2009 - 09:00:35
Tottenham Hotspur boss Harry Redknapp does not expect Jonathan Woodgate to return to action in the next few weeks.
The former Leeds United, Real Madrid, Newcastle United and Middlesbrough defender has not played this season because of a groin injury, and the problem is taking longer than anticipated to heal.
"Woodgate's nowhere near playing again," Redknapp confirmed to the Daily Mirror.
"He went to see a specialist again and he just can't train. We haven't got to the bottom of the injury at all, what's causing him discomfort."
Spurs have a raft of defensive concerns at the moment as Michael Dawson is currently sidelined with an Achilles problem while Ledley King sustained a hamstring injury during Sunday's drubbing at Chelsea.
However, there has been some good news for the club as Sebastian Bassong was given the all-clear on Monday after being stretched off the pitch at the weekend.
