New long-term deal for Modric
30 May 2010 - 15:02:43
Croatia international Luka Modric has pledged his long-term future to Tottenham Hotspur by penning a new six-year deal with Harry Redknapp's side.
The 24-year-old midfielder has scored eight goals in 76 appearances for Spurs since moving to White Hart Lane from Dinamo Zagreb almost two years ago.
Modric said of his decision to pen the new contract: "Tottenham Hotspur gave me my chance in the Premier League and I want to go on to achieve great success here with them.
"Yes, there have been enquiries from other big clubs, but I have no interest in going anywhere.
"Last season's top-four finish was an indication of where we are as a club and I feel I can continue to improve and go on to achieve everything I want to at Spurs."
Modric had been linked with a transfer to Manchester United this summer but is now looking forward to playing in the Champions League with Spurs next season.
He added: "It has been a fantastic season. I think right from the start we played very good football and in the end we finished in the Champions League and that's a great achievement.
"We had a lot of injuries over the year but that didn't matter, whoever came in did very well. We have a great squad, a lot of good players in every position, in fact two players vying for every position.
"We've needed that as well because the season in England is long - two cups and the Premier League, and now we'll hopefully have the group stages of the Champions League next season to think about as well."
