Modric finds his feet

Published: 23 Mar 2009 - 17:09:18

Luka Modric believes he is starting to get to grips with the hustle and bustle of life in the Premier League. The Croatian playmaker has endured a difficult debut season in England, with Tottenham's inconsistent form hardly helping him to settle. He arrived last summer with a glowing reputation and was tipped to be one of the stars of the season. However, Spurs' early season failings, coupled with a loss of form, saw him make a stuttering start at White Hart Lane. That led to criticism that he was not cut out for the English top-flight, with his light frame regularly called into question. His performances have steadily improved over the course of the season, though, culminating in a match-winning showing against Chelsea on Saturday. Modric hopes he has started to silence his critics and insists he has every intention of being a Premier League success story. "It was a great performance and a great goal (against Chelsea)," he said on the Daily Mail's website. "It meant a lot to me. I think I've now proved to people who doubted me that I can play in England. "It was a brilliant moment and the best feeling, scoring the winning goal against Chelsea in front of your own supporters. I was so happy after the goal - I didn't know what to do!"
