Sir Alex Ferguson has revealed it was the presence of Everton and Arsenal scouts at Crewe games that hastened Manchester United's approach for Nick Powell. The 18-year-old was first through the door at Old Trafford this summer in a deal worth ?4million, after a stunning season with The Railwaymen in which he scored 16 goals on the way to promotion to League One. Powell, who won all five major prizes at the Crewe's end-of-year awards, made his United bow last week in a pre-season friendly drew with Ajax Cape Town.
