Lennon wants Spurs future
16 Jul 2008 - 08:56:26
Tottenham Hotspur winger Aaron Lennon has vowed to stay and fight for his place amid reports that he could be one of several players axed by coach Juande Ramos.
The 21-year-old England international is rumoured to be one of several players that Ramos is keen to move out of White Hart Lane this summer.
Paul Robinson, Pascal Chimbonba and Younes Kaboul are all also believed to be unwanted by the Spanish coach, while Robbie Keane and Dimitar Berbatov could be sacrificed to Liverpool and Manchester United respectively to finance an overhaul of the first-team squad.
Lennon's place in believed to be under threat from the possible arrival of David Bentley from Blackburn Rovers, but the former Leeds United youngster insists he wants to stay at Spurs.
"There is no way I am leaving Tottenham," he told The Sun.
"I am settled here, I love the club and I feel my best form is yet to come.
"There is absolutely no reason for me to go anywhere else as I want to make a real contribution towards taking Spurs forward.
"The manager has never said a word to me about leaving - in fact it has been the opposite.
"Whenever I've spoken to him, he has given me tremendous encouragement. His words have been a real boost to my confidence.
"The manager has been right behind me since he came to the club and nothing has changed."
