    Spurs look to maintain form

    19 Nov 2009 - 14:01:38

Tottenham Hotspur will be looking to continue their fine early season form when they welcome Wigan Athletic to White Hart Lane on Sunday afternoon.

The north London outfit have bolted to fourth in the Premier League table and manager Harry Redknapp is beginning to see his side shine.

Opposite number Roberto Martinez will be hoping his men can leave the capital with a point, but the young Spanish manager knows it will be tough for his troops.

Wigan could do with dropping their Jekyll and Hyde performances that must frustrate everybody connected to the DW Stadium club.

After beating Chelsea 2-0 at the end of September, they then lost in disappointing fashion at lowly Hull City.

Soon after they grabbed an excellent 3-1 success at Burnley but then lost 4-0 at rock-bottom Portsmouth.

Martinez will be calling for consistency but against a Spurs squad with Jermain Defoe, Robbie Keane and Peter Crouch amongst an embarrassment of attacking riches, they could find it a bridge too far.

Wigan currently sit in 13th place in the table, four points ahead of the relegation zone and they could face Wilson Palacios, the gritty Honduras central midfielder, who was at Wigan for a year before joining Spurs in January.

The hosts will be without goalkeeper Carlo Cudicini following his motorcycle crash last week.

Sebastien Bassong (hamstring) is likely to miss out and team-mates Aaron Lennon and Giovani Dos Santos (both hamstring) could make the squad just in time.

Luka Modric (broken leg) is still progressing but the game will come too soon for the classy Croatia international.

Wigan are without just one player in Maynor Figueroa (knee ligament), who isn't expected to return until Christmas.

At the start of last season, with Juande Ramos and Steve Bruce in the respective hot-seats, the two huffed and puffed but played out a dour goalless draw.

The paying public will be hoping for more action this weekend.
