King targets England return
28 Dec 2007 - 07:51:53
Tottenham captain Ledley King is determined to play his way back into the England picture under new manager Fabio Capello.
The 27-year-old made his first appearance of the season for Spurs in their 5-1 Boxing Day rout of Fulham following six months on the sidelines with a knee injury.
King managed 75 minutes of the White Hart Lane clash and is likely to feature in Saturday's match against Reading despite being short of fitness.
And after returning to first-team action, the versatile defender is looking to win back his place in the England squad under newly-installed international coach Capello.
"I am no different to any player - I want to impress the new manager," he said.
"Once I have got a number of games under my belt then I can start to think about that.
"It's been more than six months since my last game and it has been a frustrating time.
"I've done a fair bit of training and have been chomping at the bit to get out there.
"The Christmas period is hectic. It is tough to come back at a period like this when I have been out for so long, so there is no problem with the knee."
