King return pleases Jol
11 Oct 2006 - 09:50:48
Tottenham boss Martin Jol has thanked England coach Steve McClaren for allowing Ledley King to return to White Hart Lane after the defender picked up a knee injury in Saturday's goalless draw with FYR Macedonia.
King did not travel with the rest of the England squad to Zagreb for Wednesday's Euro 2008 qualifier against Croatia after failing to train on Monday.
A relieved Jol told Spurs' official website: "Ledley had a slight problem with fluid on his knee after the Macedonia game and England have made the right decision not to take him to Croatia.
"He's had this problem for the last couple of weeks. He plays and then afterwards he has a little inflammation or fluid but, after a couple of days rest, he's fine and able to play again.
"I don't think he'd have been able to play against Croatia because it's still a problem - if a player isn't 100 per cent fit, he's not fit and you're better not taking any risks."
