King marks special decade at Spurs with emotional return to Anfield
Ledley King returns to Anfield this weekend 10 years after making his Tottenham debut at the famous old ground. The Spurs club captain came off the bench in the second half to makethe first of over 200 appearances for the north London club. King's career has been blighted by injury, but the 28-year-old Englandinternational has become a firm favourite at White Hart Lane during hisdecade at the club and is relishing a return to where it began for him. 'I can't believe it's 10 years ago - where has that time gone?' laughed King. 'It seems like it should only be two or three years ago. 'I remember we were 2-0 up when I came on. Mauricio Taricco had been sent off in the last minute of the first half and George Graham told me straight away that I would be going on and playing left-back. I was soon in the thick of it. 'It's a bit of a surreal experience, that first game, especially at somewhere like Anfield where you are up against some of the star players who you grew up watching.' The club have gone through seven managers during King's Tottenham career, but some things never change. Like Spurs throwing away leads. 'The game flew by and we ended up losing 3-2, but it was an amazing experience,' said King. And the White Hart Lane favourite revealed just what it means to him to play for Tottenham. 'It's still special to play for this club - that feeling is as strong now as it ever was,' added King. 'Ten years on and I still get nervous before every game and that's the way I like it. That's what brings the best out of me and when I pull on that white shirt I'm ready to go out and do battle for the club.'
