Keane to miss opener

Tottenham Hotspur striker Robbie Keane will miss the start of the Premiership season because of a thigh injury. The 26-year-old sat out Saturday's 2-1 friendly win against Real Sociedad because of the problem and has been forced to pull out of the squad for the Republic of Ireland's match against the Netherlands. A scan on the injury has revealed Keane will be sidelined for around ten days, meaning he will miss Spurs' matches against Bolton Wanderers and Sheffield United. His absence will leave coach Martin Jol to rely on England striker Jermain Defoe and £10.9million summer signing Dimitar Berbatov.
