Keane calls for backing
22 Jan 2008 - 12:01:18
Tottenham striker Robbie Keane believes the club's fans can play their part in helping the team beat Arsenal and reaching the Carling Cup Final.
The semi-final encounter is evenly poised after the 1-1 draw in the first leg at the Emirates Stadium earlier this month, but Republic of Ireland international Keane is confident Spurs can beat their north London rivals on home turf.
Keane, who netted his 100th goal for Spurs in Saturday's victory against Sunderland, told the club's official website: "It's an old cliche, but the crowd are the 12th man.
"I don't say that lightly because, when the crowd are behind you, it does give you an extra boost when they're willing you on.
"I'm sure the fans will be the same as they always are. It's a massive occasion for both teams, but playing in front of our own fans will be special for us. Hopefully it will be even more special come the end of the game.
"We've been the better teams in the last two games we've played against Arsenal and probably should have won them both.
"But we know it's going to be a difficult game because Arsenal are a quality side with quality players.
"It's a massive game for the club and the players and it's a game we're going into with a lot of confidence."
